I’m glad you’ve landed here; please feel free to flit about on this site to learn a bit about me and my work. You can read about the making of my new book, Wild Horse Scientists (coming November 6, 2012). You can also find out a bit more about me and my other writing projects, and read my occasional musings about writing and animals, two of the big passions in my life. I became a writer because I love books; along with animals, they’ve been my constant, lifelong companions (along with my wonderful book-and-animal-loving family, of course!)
I love writing both nonfiction and fiction for kids; in fact, I can’t ever decide which I like better. But whether I’m writing books about science or history or nature, or stories set in the present or the past, I always do a lot of research. Sometimes I have so much fun researching that I have to force myself to stop and begin writing. Whether fiction or nonfiction, my books always seem to include animals, history, the natural world, and the deep bond we humans have with the other creatures who share our planet. I especially like mixing these elements up: human and animal, young and old, history and memory, fact and imagination. These are the intersections where I’ve found we can learn the most about ourselves and the world around us. And they’re the places I love best!.
